- ➤ Arizona has many harmless nonvenomous snakes—like gopher snakes, kingsnakes, coachwhips and glossy snakes—that help control rodent populations, and experts say they rarely harm people if they are left alone. The Arizona Republic
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maricopa County Recorder’s Office mistakenly mailed letters to 83,000 voters warning they might be marked as inactive instead of asking for proof of citizenship due to a third-party vendor error — and it has begun sending corrected notices. County supervisors reported that voters called their offices — voicing concern over the error. KJZZ
- ➤ Gov. Hobbs signed a bill on Friday that allowed local and state tax dollars from Chase Field sales and income to be used for major repairs up to $500 million—figures that will adjust for inflation—with the work expected to help secure a new lease deal for the Arizona Diamondbacks as they plan to modernize the stadium for fans. - ➤ Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte said in an interview that he was hurt by a fan’s comments in Chicago, which referenced his deceased mother during a game on June 24 at Rate Field. The fan was ejected—banned indefinitely from major league ballparks as Marte received strong support from teammates and fans. The Arizona Republic
- ➤ Former Brophy coach Michael Keahon died June 22 after battling cancer. The 69-year-old led cross-country and track for more than 25 years—helping athletes succeed on and off the track. The Arizona Republic
