  • On Tuesday, Dec. 9, ordering from any of over 50 Barro’s Pizza locations helped local families when 100% of each purchase was donated to St. Mary's Food Bank & supported the annual Holiday Hunger Fight.  12 News
  • U.S. News ranked Arizona’s best places to live for 2025-2026, naming Queen Creek as the top city with a 6.2 score — and Gilbert as a close second — while including local communities such as Maricopa.  The Arizona Republic
  • A Mesa family was reunited with its mother's ashes after a mix-up at Sunflower Cremation and Burial (based on Dec. 1 surveillance footage) led to a man mistakenly collecting her remains, and Mesa police confirmed he claimed not to know about the error.  12 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The state Capitol tree will be provided by the People of the Tall Pines (Hualapai), continuing a holiday tradition that began in 2023 with the White Mountain Apache and continued with the San Carlos Apache last year.  KJZZ

  • Maricopa residents are urged to dispose of dead batteries properly to avoid fire and environmental risks — retailers and e-waste centers offer recycling programs while Phoenix provides a hazardous waste pick-up option.  The Arizona Republic

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new AZ study is examining whether psychedelic mushrooms can relieve PTSD in first responders. Researchers will share more details once the study begins its evaluation.  12 News

  • The public can vote for The Republic's High School Athletes of the Week nominees, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath, until 6 p.m. tomorrow and winners will be announced on Saturday. The nominees were selected based on AIA-sanctioned sports performances from Dec. 1-6.  The Arizona Republic
  • Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker is listed as questionable for today's NBA Cup quarterfinal game at Paycom Center against Oklahoma City Thunder after missing two games with a groin strain + additional teammates face injury concerns.  The Arizona Republic
  • Following Kyle Schwarber’s five-year, $150M deal with the Phillies, Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen said yesterday that trade interest in second baseman Ketel Marte increased as teams discussed roster and salary moves. The club is also exploring free-agent pitching options to adjust its lineup.  The Arizona Republic
  • Ricky Thornton Jr. (RTJ) appears on the latest episode of Full Throttle Arizona with Bruce St. James to share his dirt racing journey from Chandler. He will race Late Models at Central Arizona Raceway and midget cars at the Chili Bowl in Tulsa this January.  KTAR
