COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Giving Machines will be set up in Phoenix and two East Valley cities this holiday season to let residents purchase charity gifts priced from $5 to $250. The first machine opens today in Queen Creek at Pecan Lake Entertainment — it will run weekdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.  KTAR
  • Residents in Wittmann strongly opposed the proposed $3.2 billion BNSF rail hub during a November 5th Board meeting in Phoenix—arguing that the planned 4,320-acre facility, which may eventually create up to 76,000 jobs, will upset their close-knit way of life and raise serious environmental and health concerns.  KJZZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Waymo is expanding its self-driving vehicle service to freeways in and around Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Francisco to offer more interstate options. The company said its expansion—part of a plan to add routes in Atlanta and Austin—will gradually bring new freeway access.  KJZZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • New ASU research found that there are more mosquitoes in the area and climate change may be affecting their numbers—local residents have reported more bites this year. ASU’s artist in residence, Christopher Rivas, will debut his project 'How To Get Free' at Gammage this Saturday, Nov. 15.  KJZZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The ALA Gilbert North High School choir—representing Arizona at the White House during its Christmas open house—will perform to showcase local talent.  12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a 43-day government shutdown, Gov. Katie Hobbs said most Arizonans using SNAP have had their food benefits restored—those still waiting should receive theirs by the end of the week as full funding is secured through September 2026.  KJZZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Two Valley women created the J & M Walk to Fight AZ to raise awareness of drug overdoses and support families facing substance abuse.  12 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arizona State Sun Devils will host West Virginia tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Mountain America Stadium — the team aims to build on its strong home record while West Virginia, led by freshman quarterback Scotty Fox, enters on a two-game win streak.  The Arizona Republic
  • PHOENIX — The U.S. power soccer team is set to compete at the America's Cup at the Ability360 Sports and Fitness Center from Nov. 16 to 19, where players like Jordan Dickey and Pete Winslow will vie for a spot at the 2026 World Cup. The team aims to rebound after a third-place finish in the 2023 World Cup — local fans are expected to support their standout Arizona State alum Dickey.  12 News
