ECONOMY NEWS

  • Maricopa County was awarded $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Labor's Industry-Driven Skills Training Fund grants on November 6 to train workers in advanced manufacturing—funds will be allocated through the Arizona Department of Economic Security to boost local workforce skills.  Maricopa County

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Central Arizona cities may face cuts of over 20% in Colorado River water if talks among seven states & 30 tribes fail to produce a new drought-management plan, and cities may raise water rates or limit use to make up for the loss. Officials urge conservation and new water projects as the region's stored groundwater and savings may only offer temporary relief.  The Arizona Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arizona Independent Party has partnered with the Forward Party to offer moderate voters a fresh choice by sharing candidate support and ballot infrastructure ahead of upcoming races. Paul Johnson, who rebranded the party from the dormant No Labels Party in October, said the alliance aims to build new competition—challenging the gridlock blamed on the major parties.  KJZZ
  • The FAA announced a 10% flight capacity reduction at Phoenix Sky Harbor today due to air traffic control shortages linked to the ongoing government shutdown (federal workers are not receiving pay). Major airlines are offering refunds or flight changes if cancellations occur, and travelers are advised to check with their carriers before reaching the airport.  The Arizona Republic

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In October, property owners in the Phoenix metro area filed 7,579 eviction notices, marking the second highest monthly total this year. Maricopa County recorded 87,130 eviction cases in 2024 and is projected to see 84,000 requests in 2025 — a sign of rising rent challenges affecting many tenants.  The Arizona Republic

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Diamondbacks extended a one-year, $22 million qualifying offer to free agent right-hander Zac Gallen after the World Series—he is expected to decline the deal so the team will get a compensatory draft pick if he signs elsewhere. The move is part of several roster adjustments aimed at reducing spending next season.  The Arizona Republic
  • On November 6, the Arizona Diamondbacks named Ketel Marte, Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo as NL Silver Slugger Award winners—Marte earned his award for the second time while Carroll and Perdomo won for the first time.   • Brophy Prep won its second straight Division I state boys golf title yesterday at Aguila Golf Course—tying the record with 11 championships as the team shot 16-under to build a nine-shot lead.  The Arizona Republic
