- ➤ Former Phoenix Mayor Paul Johnson has been named chair of the new Arizona Independent Party, which replaces the No Labels Party and will require 1,300 signatures for statewide candidates—compared to 6,000 for the major parties. The party will launch on Dec. 1 and is designed to offer more options for Arizona's growing independent voter base while not nominating a presidential candidate. 12 News
- ➤ Arizonans receiving SNAP benefits may lose food stamps in less than a week because the government shutdown halted federal payments. Gov. Hobbs said the state lacks funds to replace lost benefits — nearly 900,000 people, including 367,000 children, rely on SNAP — leaving nonprofits to help where they can. KJZZ
