ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new study by the Arizona Game and Fish Department found that desert areas with wild burros have 63% fewer young saguaros and reduced native plant growth near Lake Havasu and Lake Pleasant. Officials warn that without better herd management, the fragile Sonoran Desert ecosystem—home to many wildlife species—will continue to suffer damage. The Arizona Republic
- ➤ Arizona Game and Fish warned residents that leaving carved or uncarved pumpkins and other edible Halloween decorations outside can attract wild animals like javelinas, coyotes, and bears—violating local wildlife feeding laws—and advised that decorations be kept indoors or placed high off the ground. - ➤ A valley woman lost $8,000 using a crypto ATM (just before Arizona tightens rules on these machines) in an incident that occurred right before the new regulations were scheduled to take effect. 12 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maricopa County, Glendale and Mercy Housing celebrated the grand opening of The Cascalote — a new 148-unit affordable housing community for seniors in the West Valley. Maricopa County
- ➤ Arizonans may lose their November SNAP benefits due to a government shutdown that has halted federal funding — the Arizona DES said federal instructions from the USDA have delayed the benefit load. The department will still process SNAP applications as it awaits further funding updates. KTAR
- ➤ Arizona law requires drones to be registered with the FAA and bans flights near critical facilities or in state parks—if a drone is seen acting dangerously or breaking the rules, report it to local law enforcement or the FAA. Private citizens must not shoot down drones over their property—only border sheriffs have special permission for such actions when drug smuggling is suspected. The Arizona Republic
