  • A lightning strike sparked a house fire early Wednesday morning in Avondale that forced a family of four to leave after their kitchen was ruined — firefighters stopped the flames from spreading while the family arranged to stay elsewhere.  12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb filed his statement of interest to run for Congress in District 5, an area that covers Queen Creek, Gilbert and Apache Junction—he served eight years as sheriff, lost a 2024 Senate primary to Kari Lake, and will face former state lawmaker Travis Grantham and former Cardinals kicker Jay Feely in the GOP primary.  KJZZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • New head coach Jordan Ott will lead the Suns in their first game as a brand new team today—bringing together new players and a few familiar faces as analyst Cameron Cox explained the changes. Fans in Maricopa are watching to see how the team’s fresh lineup sets the stage for the season.  12 News
  • WWE Friday Night Smackdown will take place at Mullett Arena in Tempe this week—officials preview the event for local fans.  12 News
  • Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson will miss the Houston game on Oct. 25th due to a hamstring injury, and several other starters are questionable. The coach said the team will rely on players like speedster Jaren Hamilton as they work to spread the scoring load—focusing on a group effort to replace Tyson's production.  The Arizona Republic
  • 12Sports now airs Dropping Dimes with Cam and Chilly on the 12+ app every Friday night at 11:35 p.m. as they cover Arizona high school football and Valley sports with live interviews with AIA Executive Director Dr. Jim Dean, Perry QB Kael Snyder, and recruiting analyst Adam Beadle.  12 News
