  • An AWS outage that started around midnight on Oct. 20 disrupted sites like Snapchat and Fortnite and affected service in Phoenix. Recovery has begun — but some services remain offline and users await further updates.  The Arizona Republic

CULTURE NEWS

  • Food City, Ranch Market and El Super are selling traditional Mexican sweet breads for Dia de los Muertos—offering pan dulce, conchas, pumpkin empanadas and other treats for families to honor loved ones on November 1. Some stores feature self-serve bakeries and special checkouts, and pan dulce costs about $0.98 with larger pan de muerto at $3.99 at El Super.  The Arizona Republic

  • The state granted Hickman's extra time to prove that burying over two million chickens is safe, while neighbors remain concerned about risks from the mass burial site—local officials review the safety measures.  12 News

  • Three weeks into the federal government shutdown, Arizona is ranked No. 10 on a WalletHub list that shows a big impact on areas like real estate and park access — many everyday workers have not felt a change, though some are not getting their paychecks. The shutdown is hurting a few workers and might cause shortages in help programs like food stamps if it lasts longer.  KTAR

  • The Arizona Republic's third annual Top Taco 2025 contest invites metro Phoenix readers to submit their favorite Mexican restaurant with entries due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 — voting will begin the first week of November to decide if the reigning champion retains the title or a new contender wins.  The Arizona Republic

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arizona State beat No. 7 Texas Tech 26-22 Saturday at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe — the win marked their first against a top-10 foe since 2019 and pushed the Sun Devils back in the Big 12 title race. Coach Kenny Dillingham praised quarterback Sam Leavitt for setting career highs while playing through injury.  The Arizona Republic
  • The Arizona Cardinals enter their bye week with a 2—5 record after five close losses. Coach Jonathan Gannon said the team will study its play and plan to return with injured starter Kyler Murray when ready—backup Jacoby Brissett said teammates are learning from recent games.  The Arizona Republic
