  • This summer the shelter took in more dogs while keeping a lower daily population—cutting wait times through rapid evaluations and improved appointment scheduling—and helped more families adopt pets quickly.  Maricopa County

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Waymo and DoorDash announced a delivery service where customers in metro Phoenix can opt for autonomous vehicle delivery for groceries and meals from participating merchants + the service covers a 315-square-mile area including Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, and Chandler.  KTAR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Arizona’s construction industry grew quickly from 171,000 workers before COVID to about 229,000 now, making it a $25 billion business that still lacks enough skilled staff. Governor Hobbs announced a new apprenticeship program (aimed at filling 20,000 jobs by 2030) as leaders work to improve training and hiring practices.  The Arizona Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arizona regulators plan to review and possibly eliminate long-standing mandates and incentives aimed at improving energy efficiency and renewables, with public meetings scheduled in November and December to discuss the changes. Consumer advocates warn that scrapping the programs will remove protections for customers—while utilities like APS say they will continue related programs regardless of the commission's decision.  12 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Corbin Carroll, the Diamondbacks right fielder, is one of three finalists for the Rawlings Gold Glove award with a .997 fielding percentage—he faces tough competition from San Diego's Fernando Tatis Jr. and Milwaukee's Sal Frelick as the season progresses.  The Arizona Republic
  • James Jones, who led the Suns as general manager from 2018 until last season and earned NBA executive of the year honors, embraced his new role as executive vice president and head of basketball operations for the NBA in July — he said his time in Phoenix shaped his career and prepared him for greater challenges.  The Arizona Republic
  • Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt is trending to play this week against No.7 Texas Tech after showing good progress in practice on October 15th — head coach Kenny Dillingham said running back Kyson Brown is out and center Ben Coleman had surgery while Wade Helton remains probable. The Sun Devils will face Texas Tech at Mountain America Stadium as they work to overcome these setbacks.  The Arizona Republic
  • Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson has opened up about finding his purpose after moving to Tempe (he described the change as life-changing). He said his new start has given him clear direction in both his personal life and on the field.  12 News
