ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ After a week of historic rain, mushrooms are popping up in parks, lawns, and sidewalks along the Valley—residents are urged to avoid the vomiter mushroom that can make kids and pets very sick. Experts say the mushrooms will likely vanish by mid-November—unless additional moisture arrives. 12 News

- ➤ Maricopa County voters will decide on Proposition 409—borrowing $900 million to expand Valleywise Health services—in November. 12 News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Arizona State football team, coming off a 42-10 loss to Utah, will play No. 7 Texas Tech at 1 p.m. on Oct. 18 at Mountain America Stadium to keep its Big 12 title hopes alive—Coach Kenny Dillingham is rallying his players despite injuries to key starters. The home game is expected to draw a strong crowd as the program looks to rebound and build on last season's turnaround. The Arizona Republic
- ➤ Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson said that transferring to ASU changed his life by helping him grow in football and in life—crediting his family, faith, and his move to Tempe—and he is considered a top NFL Draft prospect. 12 News
- ➤ On Oct. 14 the Suns beat the Lakers 113 to 104 at Mortgage Matchup Center as Jared Butler scored 35 points and rookie Khaman Maluach added 17 while the team overcame a 15-point deficit in the third quarter. The win improved their preseason record to 3 to 1—Suns officials said the team is preparing for the season opener. The Arizona Republic
- ➤ Walter Nolen, a first-round defensive tackle who has been out for three months with a calf injury, will return to practice this week as the Cardinals try to boost their defense. The team must add him to the active roster by Nov. 5 or he will be ruled out for the season—he missed the first six games. The Arizona Republic
- ➤ The Arizona Diamondbacks hired J.R. House as their new third-base and catching coach, replacing Tim Bogar + House spent seven seasons with the Cincinnati Reds and said the move lets him stay near his family while marking a return to the club where he began his coaching career. The Arizona Republic
- ➤ Former ASU star Cam Skattebo, the rookie running back for the Giants, earned FedEx Air & Ground Player of the Week on Oct. 15 after rushing for 98 yards and scoring three touchdowns in the 34-17 win over the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles—he became only the second rookie in Giants history to achieve three scores in one game.
