ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Arizona State University professor Hua We and his team developed two projects—Shaded Routing and DeepShade—that use generative AI to predict how shade from buildings changes over time to help protect people from extreme heat. The tools were tested at the Paris Olympics and will work with government agencies in Arizona to help build cooler, more resilient communities. KJZZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Parts of freeways Loop 101 and Loop 303 are scheduled to close from Oct 3 until Oct 6 for pavement sealing and widening projects while Glendale police provided detour maps for drivers headed to the Arizona Cardinals game on Oct 5 — inclement weather may change the schedule. The Arizona Republic
- ➤ A federal judge ordered all future community meetings on sheriff’s oversight to move to a special proceedings courtroom at the Sandra Day O’Connor Courthouse starting Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. The board will collect questions in advance—using an online survey, a paper form, and outreach—to guide the meetings. - ➤ Mercury forward Kahleah Copper tied a WNBA record in the first half of Game 1 of the finals against the Las Vegas Aces on Oct 3. She scored 19 points in 15 minutes — making 5 three pointers to equal the record set by former Mercury great Diana Taurasi. The Arizona Republic
