  • The Boys and Girls Club announced today that a raffle winner was chosen for a brand new truck.  12 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two Amazon Prime Air drones crashed Wednesday morning at a West Valley facility near a crane—no injuries were reported and both the NTSB and FAA are investigating the incident.  12 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Travelers can book round-trip flights for under $150 from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in October — San Diego is the cheapest at $82 while average airfares have risen to $305 and deals to nine cities are available.  The Arizona Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs released an extreme heat preparedness plan in March 2024 that did not mention climate change even as heat-related deaths and hospital visits increased. Experts say the omission could weaken efforts to address the growing heat problem — with officials stating the plan was designed to avoid political debate.  The Arizona Republic
  • The government shutdown started Oct. 1 after lawmakers failed to agree on extending pandemic-era tax credits that helped 300,000 low-income Arizonans access affordable coverage under the Affordable Care Act—if no new deal is reached, premiums could increase by nearly $500 monthly.  The Arizona Republic

SPORTS NEWS

  • Phoenix Suns rookie Rasheer Fleming, drafted 31st overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, said he looks forward to guarding LeBron James—he remains focused on proving his NBA readiness—while preparing for the preseason game on Oct. 3 against the Lakers in Palm Desert.  The Arizona Republic
  • After 20 years, Tempe will host the final Ironman Arizona triathlon on Sunday, Nov. 16, when athletes will complete a 140.6-mile course that includes a 2.4-mile swim in Tempe Town Lake, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run around the city—heavy construction has made it difficult to plan a safe route.  The Arizona Republic
  • The Phoenix Suns’ center Mark Williams will sit out the Oct. 3 preseason opener because he skipped live 5-on-5 play in camp to build lower body strength after past injuries — he has played 106 games in three seasons. Coach Jordan Ott said he will be re-evaluated after the China trip ahead of the regular season opener on Oct. 22.  The Arizona Republic
