CULTURE NEWS

  • Phoenix Zoo is partnering with comic book artist Todd McFarlane for its Comic Conservation event on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitors can join a drawing lesson, enter a raffle for a rare signed lithograph, and see live art as the exhibit runs through Jan. 25, 2026 to help the zoo care for animals and nature.  The Arizona Republic

  • A Purdue University study reveals that Arizonians need to earn $115,500 a year to be happy and $66,000 to feel content — GOBankingRates ranked Arizona 15th in cost to maintain happiness. This study shows the direct link between income and emotional well-being for local residents.  The Arizona Republic

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arizona State University received a record $115 million donation from former Walmart chairman Rob Walton to launch a new School of Conservation Futures—this donation will also rename its College of Global Futures in his honor. The school will open later this year to train future sustainability leaders and build on ASU’s strong record in conservation.  The Arizona Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Friday, Arizona will require users on adult websites to verify their age by uploading a government-issued ID—this law, aimed at protecting minors from harmful content, has opponents warning it may drive users to leave these sites and spark free speech concerns.  KJZZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Corbin Carroll homered and drove in four runs while Eduardo Rodriguez pitched six scoreless innings as the Diamondbacks won 9-2 over the Phillies on Sunday, moving within a game of the final NL wild-card spot. The win brought Arizona closer to a playoff berth as they entered the final week of the regular season.  12 News
  • Andrea Doan, wife of former Coyotes captain Shane Doan, was named chair of an advisory group set to bring the NHL back to the Phoenix area. Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chair Tom Galvin formed the committee and named the Matt Shott Arizona Hockey Legacy Foundation as the group's community pillar — more advisory board members will be announced soon.  The Arizona Republic
  • The Phoenix Suns will have 75 regular-season games and 4 preseason games televised on Arizona’s Family next season – starting with the opener on Oct. 22 against the Sacramento Kings at PHX Arena – while select games air on national networks. The team extended its local media rights partnership with Gray Media through 2028 in a deal valued at over $30 million per season that includes the Phoenix Mercury and Valley Suns.  The Arizona Republic
