- ➤ A three-judge panel from the 9th Circuit allowed a lawsuit against the state agency holding nearly $2.8 billion in unclaimed property to move forward after ruling that the notice process failed to protect owners’ rights. The decision sends the case back to a trial judge to determine if state workers must reach out to owners rather than simply listing names online — a change that could alter how unclaimed funds are handled.
