  • At South Mountain Community College, about three in ten students fell behind on student loan payments after COVID relief ended — the district will offer workshops and personalized counseling to help borrowers catch up, and institutions risk losing federal aid if default rates remain high over time.   • Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said she will file a lawsuit against the Department of Education after an investigation on ESA spending revealed parents used taxpayer funds to purchase luxury items like diamond rings and iPhones — and she vowed to question the agency's oversight. Records show more than $124 million in ESA payments were automatically approved since late November, raising concerns over the misuse of public funds and prompting calls for tighter spending guidelines.  12 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Southwind Foods recalled frozen shrimp sold under the brands Sand Bar, Arctic Shores, Best Yet, Great American and First Street after federal officials detected potential radioactive contamination from Cesium-137—a byproduct of nuclear reactions—in shipments distributed between July 17 and Aug. 8 across nine states including Arizona. The FDA advised consumers not to eat the affected products.  KJZZ

  • Catcher Gabriel Moreno is nearing his return from the injured list after homering in consecutive Triple-A games, prompting the Diamondbacks to plan a roster move.
