HEALTH NEWS

  • Incoming Phoenix Children's CEO John Nickens pledged $20 a month on KTAR this Wednesday during the Give-A-Thon to support patient care at Phoenix Children’s—he recalled his past with the fundraiser after Hurricane Katrina and will join the hospital in October as he leaves New Orleans’ University Medical Center for LCMC Health. The fundraiser has raised $713,023 so far and will continue through the next two days.  KTAR
  • Extreme heat in the Valley has led Maricopa County to expand cooling centers and water stations so residents can stay safe. The city of Phoenix opened two new sites—Burton Barr Library open 24/7 and a night-only center at Senior Opportunities West with room for 50 people each—that have operated since May 1 and will run through September 30.  12 News
