- ➤ Spirit Airlines said in an SEC filing on Aug. 11 that weak travel demand and financial challenges may force it to shut down within the next 12 months. Fewer Spirit flights may soon be available at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport—passengers can still book flights today. The Arizona Republic
- ➤ Air Canada began canceling flights on Thursday after receiving a 72-hour strike notice on Aug. 13 and will cancel more flights starting Saturday when flight attendants go on strike—passengers holding tickets for Phoenix routes to Montreal and Toronto must check for rebooking or refund options. - ➤ A Maricopa County judge ruled that Arizona is not properly funding the capital needs of public schools—declaring the practice unconstitutional. 12 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Arizona law enforcement can pull over drivers who travel below the posted speed limit when they block traffic, and state law says slow drivers must use the right lane except when passing. Lawmakers may pass House Bill 2235 later this session—imposing a $500 fine on those driving slowly in the left lane. The Arizona Republic
