CRIME NEWS

  • Lori Vallow Daybell was sentenced Friday to two life terms in Arizona on murder conspiracy charges tied to 2019 crimes—prosecutors said she planned to kill her ex-husband to collect a $1 million life insurance payout—while family members and Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell called the verdict a necessary step for justice.  KTAR

  • The Boys & Girls Club of the Valley announced that $1.3 million in federal funds have been unfrozen to support 2,000 youth this school year, but it has $0 in next year's budget and plans to adjust its program delivery and seek local philanthropic aid—steps aimed at securing long-term services.  KJZZ

  • On July 22nd, Senator Gallego sent a letter urging Kroger to reconsider canceling a transportation contract with Ruan Transportation that could cost over 130 trucker jobs in Tolleson—he warned that the move risks long-term stability for seasoned union workers.  The Arizona Republic
  • On Friday, Arizona Congressman Greg Stanton said he was illegally denied entry to Eloy Detention Center as ICE officials enforced a new DHS policy — requiring seven days’ advance notice — which blocked his visit to check on longtime business owner Kelly Yu, held since May. Stanton said he will continue pressing DHS and ICE for answers amid growing concerns for detainees and their families.  KJZZ

  • The Arizona Cardinals will debut a new Rivalries uniform on Aug. 28 and will wear it in a home game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 25—this design draws on local community insights and will be available at team outlets and select stores in Arizona. The jersey will remain in the uniform lineup for three years as part of the NFL Rivalries series by Nike.  The Arizona Republic
