- ➤ Early monsoon winds stirred up dust and pushed air monitors in Maricopa to unsafe levels, and officials warn that personal fireworks today may worsen the air—posing risks for those with asthma or other breathing issues. The Arizona Republic

- ➤ Officials downgraded the evacuation status on July 3 for communities near the Monarch Fire, which burned 148 acres and was 30% contained by 6:30 p.m. on July 2 — fire crews continued mop-up efforts as investigators determined the fire started on July 1 from dragging chains along U.S. Highway 60.
