CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An armed robbery suspect, Eddy Ortega Romero, 28, was hit by a Phoenix police SUV when officers tried to stop him and taken to the hospital before being booked at Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail on Saturday on seven counts — including burglary, aggravated assault and prohibited weapon possession — with his bond set at $150,450. - ➤ The Surprise Police Department said that on Friday night just after 11 p.m. near Reems and Waddell roads in Surprise, 45-year-old Justin Pine allegedly shot and killed his 48-year-old brother during a domestic dispute—after an argument that followed their removal from a Tempe concert—and he now faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. 12 News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Salt River Project announced Tuesday that it will convert its coal-fired Coronado Generating Station to run on natural gas—conversion is set to finish by 2029 and could save customers $300 million compared to building a new plant. The SRP board also approved ending coal generation by the end of 2032 so the plant can serve more than 150,000 homes. 12 News

- ➤ Arizona State University professor Deborah Young explained that cooling clothing using synthetic fabrics and phase change materials helps remove sweat from the body—this technology is now used in athletic wear and bedding. She said the process is safe and available to consumers today. KJZZ

- ➤ Leaked documents from an investigative podcast revealed that Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill and former GM Steve Keim planned to limit the fully guaranteed money in Kyler Murray’s summer 2022 contract talks—resulting in a deal worth $230.5M with only $103M guaranteed and special clauses such as restrictions on video gaming. This contract structure is seen to help keep the cap hit minimal for future moves and influenced other teams’ negotiations. The Arizona Republic
