  • Emilie Kiser’s husband said their 3-year-old son fell into the backyard pool and drowned on May 18 while he was busy with their newborn—police records show the family has filed a lawsuit to block public details about the incident.  The Arizona Republic

  • A guide to Juneteenth events across the Valley shows that celebrations include live music, interactive workshops and food at venues such as Tempe Public Library today, Phoenix Art Museum on Thursday and Central Arizona College in Maricopa on Saturday—while Scottsdale will not host a public event following recent council changes.  12 News

  • Arizona Lottery posted its winning numbers for games drawn on June 16th including Powerball (17-21-23-27-52 with Power Play: 5) and The Pick (10-18-23-24-39-44) which help fund education, health and environmental programs. Winners must claim prizes above $599 in person or by mail using the designated procedures.  The Arizona Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced the state will receive up to $108 million from a national opioid settlement—parts of which will support treatment, prevention, and recovery programs in affected communities.  KTAR
  • The U.S. Forest Service released the final environmental impact statement for the Resolution Copper mine at Oak Flat east of Phoenix, starting the 60-day countdown after the document is posted on June 20 for transferring 2,400 acres. Indigenous groups oppose the move because the sacred land and unique habitats face potential harm while legal reviews continue ahead of the scheduled land transfer on August 19 — a decision that may also bring job creation and tax benefits.  The Arizona Republic

LIFESTYLE NEWS
