CRIME NEWS

  • Tyler Hitte, 23, allegedly assaulted a police officer on Tuesday near 67th and Peoria by wrapping yellow tape around the officer and striking her with a metal water bottle—he now faces three felony charges for two counts of aggravated assault and one count of resisting arrest, with his next court appearance set for June 25.  KTAR

  • Homeowners in Arizona have seen a 70% spike in home insurance premiums since 2019, with rates rising 13% in the past year and the average premium now at $2,623 compared to the national $2,801. Experts point to rising home values, building costs, and wildfire risks as key factors behind the increase — state regulators have formed a group to address the burden.  The Arizona Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Judge Susanna Pineda dismissed a lawsuit against the Arizona Corporation Commission’s policy that lets utility companies seek yearly rate increases approved by a 3-2 vote last December. The ruling stated the commission is exempt from the usual rate case process—leaving the policy in place.  KJZZ
  • Senator Jake Hoffman backed several GOP candidates at the Capitol on June 13 as he seeks to reshape state party politics before the 2026 primary—he endorsed Congressman Andy Biggs for governor, state treasurer Kimberly Yee for superintendent, and two state reps running against Corporation Commission incumbents.   • The Diamondbacks announced that closer Justin Martínez suffered a UCL sprain on June 9 and will undergo Tommy John surgery to keep him off the field for the next 12–13 months.
