  • The Arizona Humane Society is offering discounted microchips at $10 this month—down from $25—to help protect pets ahead of Fourth of July events. Pet owners can schedule appointments online for a quick, pain-free injection.  KTAR

  • A plane returning to Phoenix crashed after leaving Arizona the previous day—killing all six people on board.  12 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lowe's will open a new store in Maricopa soon as part of its plan to add five to ten locations in 2025—adjusting from its earlier goal of 10 to 15 stores a year. Earlier this year, Lowe's opened stores in Magnolia and Fort Worth, Texas—after reopening a location in Asheville following Hurricane Helene.  The Arizona Republic
  • Arizona's wine industry is booming, but rising temperatures and unpredictable weather are making grape growing tougher in the desert — local winemakers from Page Springs Cellars and Bodega Pierce explained their plans on Valley 101. Wine regions with higher elevation like Sonoita still offer cooler conditions that help grow quality grapes despite climate challenges.  The Arizona Republic

CRIME NEWS

  • Two 21-year-olds were sentenced last week to seven years in prison after a fatal street race on S. Avondale Boulevard — the high-speed race led to a BMW colliding with a Ford and splitting a truck in two, killing a 32-year-old driver.  KTAR
  • Carlos Maximilliano Galvan of Maricopa killed tribal police officer Bryan Brown nearly five years ago outside a casino and has now been sentenced to 44 years in federal prison—Galvan pled guilty to second-degree murder after he drove his patrol vehicle into Brown during a 911 call.  KTAR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new Arizona bill on Gov. Hobbs' desk would let students and parents sue teachers if they teach or promote antisemitism — critics say it could worsen the teacher shortage and restrict free speech. The bill passed in the Senate on May 28 and the House on June 4, and Gov. Hobbs must sign or veto it today.  The Arizona Republic

  • Josh Naylor hit a grand slam in the 11th inning to give the Arizona Diamondbacks an 8-4 win over the Seattle Mariners Monday night. Corbin Carroll launched a leadoff homer and the team stopped a three-game skid after losing closer Justin Martinez to right elbow tightness — the bullpen then worked to secure the win.  12 News
