HEALTH NEWS

  • Swimming in the heat requires extra care as safe pool water temperatures range from 78 to 86 degrees while many find 90-degree water acceptable if they watch for dehydration and overheating. Swimmers should use sun protection and drink water before, during, and after their dips since overly warm water can lead to bacterial growth, chemical imbalances, and skin irritation — the precautions help keep swimmers safe in Arizona's intense summer heat.  The Arizona Republic
  • Maricopa residents planning outdoor exercise in the heat are advised to follow safety tips as temperatures near 100 degrees (to reduce risk). A registered nurse in the East Valley and state health services recommend limiting activity over 90 degrees, staying hydrated, and moving indoors if temperatures exceed 105 degrees (to avoid symptoms like dizziness and heat exhaustion).  The Arizona Republic
  • Maricopa County confirmed its first heat-related death of 2025 when an older adult male died from injuries he got during the 2024 heat season; the Maricopa County Department of Public Health reported 608 heat-related deaths in 2024 & is working with community partners to expand cooling center hours and heat safety measures.  Maricopa County
