  • Wildlife World Zoo will host an Armed Forces Day event tomorrow offering free admission for active military members & their families. The zoo has partnered with 12News & is preparing special programs to honor the military community.  12 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A former Prescott police officer, Brian Sutton, 26, was indicted on one count of manslaughter for fatally shooting unarmed Daniel Leslie in 2024 when Leslie ran toward his home, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said on May 14 after the case was transferred from Yavapai County because of a conflict of interest.  The Arizona Republic

CULTURE NEWS

  • AMC Theatres in metro Phoenix announced a summer discount deal when AMC Stubs members will get half-price tickets on Discount Wednesdays starting July 9—other days offer 20–25% off on Tuesday, 25% off matinees, and special savings for students, military members and seniors.  The Arizona Republic

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Greer Fire forced hundreds of residents to evacuate homes and burned more than 7,000 acres as of May 15, and 400 firefighters are working to contain the blaze.  12 News
  • Officials updated 12News on Thursday night on the Greer Fire as it grew to more than 9,500 acres—fire authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.  12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Arizona Transportation Institute—based at the University of Arizona with partners from ASU and NAU—has gathered dozens of ideas from university researchers and students to improve state roads using Federal Highway Administration funds. Eight research projects are under review and focus on safety, bridge and pavement design, and cost-saving repair techniques.  12 News
  • The San Carlos Apache Tribe asked a federal court on May 14 to block a land swap that would allow Resolution Copper to develop a copper mine at Oak Flat—a site sacred to Native peoples east of Phoenix. A federal judge halted the deal last week and the tribe seeks to delay any progress until its lawsuit is resolved.  The Arizona Republic

  • The Arizona Cardinals have set their 2025 preseason schedule that features three games in August—hosting the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders while playing an away game at the Denver Broncos. They will start the regular season with a road game against the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 7.  The Arizona Republic
  • The Diamondbacks are set to take the field today — an 8-year-old will throw out the first pitch as part of the Miracle League of Arizona event. This special moment highlights support for inclusive youth baseball in our community.  12 News
