GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Hobbs recently signed Preston's Law to help stop teen violence, and the law will introduce measures aimed at enhancing youth safety statewide (officials plan to work with law enforcement and community leaders to monitor its progress).  12 News
  • In April, Arizona lawmakers reached a last-minute bipartisan deal to provide $122 million for disability services after a 13-year-old from Maricopa urged lawmakers to support her brother’s care. Local representative Julie Willoughby + state officials signed the bill to prevent a funding shortfall that could affect thousands of Arizonans.  KJZZ
  • Arizona officials and Preston Lord's mother gathered after the signing of Preston's Law—aimed at curbing teen violence—and expressed strong support for the new measure.  12 News
  • Gov. Katie Hobbs said Arizona has already made hard cuts and spent many dollars on water projects to protect its share of the shrinking Colorado River — urging upper basin states to agree to similar cuts as talks continue after a May 13 roundtable at Central Arizona Project headquarters.  The Arizona Republic

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ten people were hospitalized from a listeria outbreak linked to ready-to-eat foods sold in Arizona as part of a recall from Fresh and Ready Foods LLC; the FDA said recalled items with use-by dates from April 22 to May 19 were distributed between April 18 and 28—consumers are urged not to eat, sell, or serve the products and to clean surfaces that touched them.  The Arizona Republic
