EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ ASU has named Jyotishman Pathak as the first dean of its new School of Technology for Public Health—he will start in July to work on digital tools and AI that help fight heat-related illnesses and mental health issues in our community. The school will partner with local and state health agencies to bring innovative ways to keep people healthy. KJZZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Arizona Sen. Ruben Gallego introduced Monday a 21-page plan to reform immigration that calls for increased border security, more Border Patrol agents, and new legal migration options—including a pathway to citizenship for some immigrants—to address enforcement and legal entry gaps. KJZZ
- ➤ State water negotiators from seven states will not speak at the Getches-Wilkinson Conference in June as they hold closed-door talks over water cuts from the shrinking Colorado River that serves 40 million people & deepens divisions between Upper and Lower Basin states. Experts warn that this lack of public discussion may lead to legal disputes over future water management. KJZZ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health officials warn that some products sold in Arizona may be contaminated with listeria, and at least 10 people have been hospitalized in California & Nevada. Consumers are urged to check products and seek medical care if they experience symptoms. 12 News
- ➤ A study by University of Arizona scientists found that health care workers in Maricopa had higher levels of two PFAS chemicals in their blood—similarly to firefighters. Researchers said the chemicals may come from job gear and will study the link further. KJZZ

- ➤ Corbin Carroll hit two home runs off Justin Verlander as the Diamondbacks beat the Giants 2-1 Monday night. Merrill Kelly pitched seven innings with eight strikeouts while Carroll, now one home run behind league leaders, powered Arizona’s series-opening win—boosting his season tally significantly. 12 News
