ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews are battling a fire that has burned 300 acres near Horseshoe Lake — they are working to contain the blaze and secure nearby areas. 12 News
- ➤ The Hazen wildfire south of Buckeye burned 1,191 acres and reached 78% containment on Thursday, May 7. Crews locked in lines on the west and north sides and continued to monitor smoke and fuel (dense salt cedar) with no evacuations or property damage reported. The Arizona Republic
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Maricopa County public health officials warned Mesa residents about measles exposure at 10 public sites, including Chick-fil-A, Target, and a local church, bringing the total cases to 13. People who visited have from May 10 to 24 to watch for symptoms such as high fever — check if symptoms develop. The Arizona Republic
- ➤ Arizona health officials reported that a state resident who sailed on a cruise ship linked to a hantavirus outbreak is being monitored and remains symptom-free. The CDC stated the risk to the public is extremely low + preventive measures for rodent contact remain recommended. The Arizona Republic
