GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 7, Sky Harbor operated smoothly when Real ID enforcement began with extra TSA screeners and volunteer navigators guiding passengers—most wait times were under 10 minutes. Passengers without a compliant ID were subject to additional screening and advised to review TSA requirements before flying.  The Arizona Republic
  • Arizona public schools can now hire retired police officers after Gov. Hobbs signed a law that expands the School Safety Program and lets schools add safety equipment, train officers to work with students with disabilities, and create emergency response plans—helping ease the shortage of active officers. State Schools Superintendent Tom Horne praised the law as a common-sense step toward improving campus safety.  12 News

  • Phoenix Suns GM Brian Gregory said he values former GM James Jones’ advice as the team prepares to choose a new head coach and make roster moves ahead of June’s draft—he stressed that his strong working relationship with Jones, appointed as senior adviser on May 1, will guide key decisions—while the organization moves forward under fresh leadership.  The Arizona Republic
  • Today, the Dodgers begin their first series of 2025 in Phoenix, and Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said his team must win every game to keep their playoff hopes alive. The NL West series pits the Diamondbacks against top teams and strong pitchers while thousands of fans fill Chase Field — every game will count.  The Arizona Republic
