  • Darling Debbie, a Kelpie mix shot and paralyzed, learned to walk on her own and is ready for adoption through Cooper’s Chance Animal Rescue in Queen Creek + Holbrook Animal Care and Control provided her care. Best Friends Animal Society will highlight her story on National Specially-abled Pets Day tomorrow.  12 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Travelers booking flights in May from Phoenix can secure round-trip fares as low as $79 to San Diego and $132 to Salt Lake City, despite a +32% rise in average prices by late April driven by higher jet fuel costs.  The Arizona Republic

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Starting May 1, annual fire bans are in effect at Phoenix and Maricopa County parks to lower fire risks. Visitors are advised to review park rules before lighting any fires.  12 News
  • Maricopa residents can watch the Eta Aquariids meteor shower, active since April 19, which will peak on May 5-6. The best viewing is at around 2 a.m. in a dark area when fast, bright meteors streak across the eastern sky & light up early morning.  The Arizona Republic

FINANCE NEWS

  • Android users who accessed the internet with a cellular data plan since Nov. 12, 2017 may be eligible for up to $100 from a class action settlement over Google's data collection practices; eligible claimants should choose a payment option by May 29 ahead of the final hearing on June 23.  The Arizona Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maricopa County residents can now reserve local campsites two weeks earlier than visitors from other areas (453 Parks and Recreation sites). The policy follows a survey response and prioritizes locals while an outdoor fire ban remains in effect until Sept. 3.  KTAR

HEALTH NEWS

  • The 2026 Heat Relief Network opened cooling sites across the Valley last Friday to help residents beat high temperatures. Over 200 locations now offer free cool spaces, rehydration and transport assistance provided by local agencies with details available online.  KTAR
  • Emilie Kiser posted a TikTok urging parents to install pool fences and update door alarms nearly one year after her three-year-old son tragically drowned at their Chandler home. She calls for immediate water safety and CPR training as May is water safety awareness month.  The Arizona Republic
