  • Tribes in Arizona are teaming up with state and federal groups to fight wildfires, with Fort McDowell Fire Department now using an enhanced mutual aid system to get extra help during emergencies—new federal guidelines and a bill in Congress may boost these plans. California’s successful tribal-fire partnerships serve as a model while Arizona works to change old rules and better train its fire crews.  The Arizona Republic
  • March storms delayed wildfire season—extending its start by about three extra weeks—but experts warn that drought and dry vegetation will keep fire risk high until the monsoon arrives. HEALTH NEWS

  • Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes participated in a prescription drug take-back event in Sun Lakes on April 26 that ran from 9 a.m. to noon—organizers offered shredding trucks and deactivation pouches to help curb opioid misuse.  The Arizona Republic

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Cardinals focused on defense during the NFL draft by using six of their seven picks on defensive players. They selected Walter Nolen at No. 16 and Will Johnson at No. 47—adding further picks to address team needs as they look to improve for next season.  12 News
  • Arizona State players Leif Fautanu and Xavier Guillory signed free agent deals—Fautanu with the Detroit Lions and Guillory with the Baltimore Ravens—after the NFL draft ended at Lambeau Field, following a season where several ASU players sought new opportunities.  The Arizona Republic
