- ➤ The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking homes for over 100 desert tortoises as they wake from brumation — the reptiles cannot go back into the wild because of health risks. Residents interested in adopting a tortoise must prepare a proper burrow and agree to care for a pet that can live for up to 100 years, with one tortoise allowed per household. KTAR
