CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said 41-year-old Jonathan Peterson—already serving a 24-year sentence—used a smuggled cellphone to order the execution-style murder of police informant Juan Raygoza in October 2017 and received an additional 42.75 years in prison. The Arizona Republic
- ➤ A 17-year-old who went missing from a Mesa group home on May 18, 2024 reconnected with her family on April 3 and was reported safe with her mother—Mesa PD said they will verify her safety in person before closing her case. 12 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Adelita Grijalva, daughter of late Congressman Raul Grijalva and a member of the Pima County Board, announced Monday that she is running for Congress in Southern Arizona's CD7 and will resign later this week. Sen. Mark Kelly and former Rep. Gabby Giffords endorsed her campaign on Wednesday—Tucson Mayor Regina Romero will chair her drive as she aims to continue her father's legacy. 12 News
- ➤ Federal law enforcement agencies will expand resources under Operation Not Forgotten by rotating 60 FBI personnel—starting 90-day assignments—to 10 cities including Phoenix to support investigations into missing and murdered Indigenous peoples. The initiative will add 11 agents to Arizona, supply advanced forensic technology and analytical support, and strengthen partnerships with tribal law enforcement to help resolve unsolved cases and keep families informed. - ➤ An ESA advocate told Congress that no public schools have closed in Arizona since the program began—yet records show that since 2022, 20 public schools have closed or are set to close in six Phoenix-area districts. 12 News
