  • Aldi filed leases for three new stores in metro Phoenix — one in Phoenix replacing a former Big Lots at Tatum Point shopping center and the others in Cave Creek and Peoria. The discount grocer plans to open 10 new locations in 2026.  The Arizona Republic
  • Costco has been approved to build the first U.S. warehouse on tribal land at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community near Pima and Camelback roads in Scottsdale. The 162,000-sqft project will break ground in June 2026 and is expected to create jobs and boost local sales tax revenue.  12 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The SkyFire Film Festival is showing 'Beer Saves the World' this weekend as it follows microbrewers like Arizona Wilderness as they brew beer with Kernza—a drought-resistant grain that captures carbon. Director Kelly Sallaway says the film shows how eco-friendly brewing can mix taste with sustainability.  KJZZ
  • The Wild West Festival brings national and local musical talent to Maricopa today, offering live music, performances, interactive attractions, and delicious food in a fun community event.  12 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is set to issue a waiver on environmental rules for E15 fuel starting May 1 to help lower gas prices for local drivers as Maricopa faces high costs, and Gov. Hobbs is eyeing a tax cut + which could save motorists 19 cents per gallon.  12 News

  • ASU scholars at the Urban Climate Research Center are studying new ways to fight Arizona's heat and drought challenges. Their interdisciplinary research will bring innovative solutions to benefit local communities in the future.  12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Hobbs announced that seven AI cameras have been installed statewide as part of the new AZFIRECAM program to detect wildfire smoke early in high-risk areas, including near Tucson (western Maricopa County) and rural ranges so firefighters can respond faster during wildfire season.  KTAR

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Picacho Peak State Park offers a challenging 1.6-mile Hunter Trail hike that ends at a summit with vast desert views — ranger-led hikes depart today at 8 a.m. from Barret Loop so hikers should bring proper gear for a technical climb.  The Arizona Republic

  • Pavin Smith returned to the Diamondbacks lineup against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on Friday, Mar. 27 after tests showed no elbow damage, and he is set to bat fifth as the team prepares for upcoming games in Los Angeles and at Chase Field.  The Arizona Republic
