  • Phoenix Suns All-Star Devin Booker said he will research the Arizona charges against Kalshi after it donated $500,000 to his Starting Five charity (his local nonprofit) and provided scholarships, as he partners with the prediction market platform for its NCAA Basketball Tournament promotion.  The Arizona Republic

ECONOMY NEWS

  • After the Feb. 28 conflict led to shipping delays through the Strait of Hormuz, Arizona drivers saw nearly a dollar increase per gallon by mid-March, with Phoenix stations ranging from below $4 to almost $6 for regular gas.  The Arizona Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new report shows LIHEAP underfunds cooling aid for low-income households, leaving Arizona with one of the largest gaps in federal energy support. Two state senators plan to introduce a LIHEAP Parity Act to better match aid with residents’ rising cooling needs.  KJZZ
  • Residents in several Arizona cities could soon board a direct train to Mexico City as new projects expand existing cargo rail routes; construction is underway on four Mexican routes and phase four aims to connect Hermosillo to Nogales — with possible extensions to Tucson and Phoenix by 2030.  The Arizona Republic
  • Governor Hobbs (the state's chief executive) announced her office will not recognize Cesar Chavez Day this year after reports of abuse emerged. Phoenix and Tempe officials plan to rename the holiday (removing Chavez names from public spaces) to better honor survivors.  KJZZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Costco recalled its meatloaf meal kit sold at local stores between March 2 and March 13 due to a salmonella risk after a supplier announced the potential contamination — the kit has sell-by dates from March 5 to March 16, and customers should return any kit for a full refund.  The Arizona Republic

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 84th annual Brooks Chandler Rotary Invitational will take place at Chandler High School on March 20-21, drawing top high school track and field athletes and sparking a potential record effort in the 100-meter hurdles. Fans should expect tough competing conditions as temperatures near 103 degrees.  The Arizona Republic
