  • Buc-ee's will open its first Arizona store on June 22 at 6 a.m. in Goodyear at 1001 N. Bullard Ave, featuring a 74,000 sqft travel center and creating 200 full-time jobs.  The Arizona Republic
  • At Baiz Fresh Foods in Mesa yesterday morning, the three Baiz brothers marked their Middle Eastern grocery chain's rise to become the Valley's largest since beginning in 2005. Their family owned stores now offer fresh pita & halal meat with specialty nuts to local shoppers.  The Arizona Republic

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Arizona drivers face a more than $1 per gallon rise in gas prices driven by overseas conflict and spring's seasonal demand; analysts say prices will likely remain high until oil costs stabilize (state average for regular gas was $4.32 on March 15).  The Arizona Republic
  • David Martin, owner of Martin's Auto Repair, offers tips to stretch fuel as gas prices rise today. He suggests drivers use simple techniques—like properly inflating tires—to maximize mileage and reduce costs.  12 News

  • ASU professor Sujey Vega released 'Mormon Barrio,' a book that explores over 100 years of Latino conversions to the LDS Church and examines community rituals like Spanish religious rites at Mesa’s temple — shaping cultural identity. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Katie Hobbs signed a law on Monday, Mar. 16 requiring Arizona merchants to use Swedish rounding on cash transactions; bills ending in 1, 2, 6, or 7 round down while those ending in 3, 4, 8, or 9 round up to the nearest nickel.  KJZZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Valley could see five straight days of triple-digit temperatures this week so residents are advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak heat.  12 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • On March 16, the Phoenix Suns played the Celtics at TD Garden with TV coverage on 3TV and Arizona’s Family Sports; Phoenix lacked key players Dillon Brooks and Mark Williams while Boston missed Nikola Vucevic (injured).  The Arizona Republic
  • The University of Arizona spent about $22.6m, ranking third nationally, while ASU spent less than half that amount and began its search for a new men’s basketball coach. Figures come from MFRS records for the 2024–25 season.  The Arizona Republic
