BUSINESS NEWS

  • California-based liquid nitrogen ice cream shop Nite Creamery plans to expand in metro Phoenix over the next three years by opening five new locations, beginning with its first shop opening soon in Surprise (it debuted in Tempe in 2025).  The Arizona Republic

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wildlife World Zoo in Litchfield Park introduced Jellybean (a baby pygmy hippo) after a fan naming contest that closed Feb. 22; she debuted on Feb. 10 and now spends time with her mother during warmer weather.  The Arizona Republic
  • Art Detour 2026 is a month-long celebration in March that offers free art events across the Valley including metro Phoenix. Local galleries, studios and businesses will host events + some may require an RSVP.  The Arizona Republic
  • The Arizona State Fair is set to run Thursdays through Sundays from Oct. 1 to Nov. 1 with the theme A State of Wonder; interested attendees can join free Fair Fandom membership for early deals + updates and a surprise announcement coming on March 19.  The Arizona Republic

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Valley teens can join a junior lifeguard program during spring break that teaches water rescue skills and water safety at Revel Surf Park—organizers say the event offers hands-on learning opportunities in a safe, engaging setting.  12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A recent report shows nearly 400K Arizonans no longer use SNAP benefits because federal law changes (tighter eligibility rules prompting removals) have reduced enrollment statewide. Officials say the shift in rules continues to affect many recipients.  12 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Aldi recalled nearly 9,500 lbs of Bremer Italian Style Meatballs after metal fragments were found in the product; local stores removed the affected 32 oz bags following a Feb. 22 complaint and no injuries were reported (shoppers should check packaging if they purchased the item).  The Arizona Republic
  • Horses Help provides equine-assisted activities for people with special needs in the Valley (program details are available at local centers).  12 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Feb. 27, the Cardinals met with Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson at the NFL combine as he said he is ready to play, signaling the team is looking at new quarterback options beyond Kyler Murray.  The Arizona Republic
  • The Diamondbacks sent Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo, and Carlos Santana to Miami for the World Baseball Classic as the team played Friday's game against the Mariners. Nolan Arenado will play today at Tempe before joining Team Puerto Rico—WBC president Jose Sulaimán will throw the ceremonial first pitch Tuesday.  The Arizona Republic
