- ➤ Seven Western states using the Colorado River are expected to miss today's deadline for a new water sharing deal as negotiations over mandatory cutbacks remain stalled amid record low reservoir levels and severe drought — Arizona water leaders say being on a path to avoiding litigation could spur a short term agreement. - ➤ Local environmental groups and the Attorney General’s Office said the EPA’s reversal of its key climate change rule could worsen air quality and heat in our area. The office may take legal action — a step to safeguard residents from further environmental harm. KJZZ
- ➤ On Feb. 12, a U.S. District Court ruled to pause demotion proceedings against Sen. Mark Kelly, citing his retired status that gives him broader free speech protection in his legislative role—Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth said the defense will appeal the ruling. The Arizona Republic
- ➤ On Feb. 13 the Supreme Court ruled that a social worker could testify in a court-ordered mental health treatment case after warning the patient that the evaluation was not confidential — a decision that may influence similar future cases. KJZZ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ More than 70,000 Arizonans dropped ACA coverage after insurers raised premiums by as much as 40%—many could not afford the first month's payment. Lawmakers have not reached an agreement on extending subsidies, forcing some residents to choose catastrophic plans or fee-for-service options. KJZZ
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Arizona Diamondbacks re-signed right-hander Zac Gallen on a one-year deal worth $22.025 million pending a physical, reuniting him with the team he has played with for most of his career.
